Happy World Book Day!

Posted on

Whether it's serious news or funny memes, life is absolutely information overload at the moment! Do you want to just curl up on your sofa and get stuck into a book? Well, there's never been an easier and more opportune time to. In light of World Book Day 2020, we are bringing you three great but very different recommendations...

1. Slow Fashion: Aesthetics Meets Ethics by Safia Minney

Written in 2016 but still totally relevant today, Safia Minney curates pioneering people and projects that will inspire you to be part of the global fashion change. International names include Livia Firth, Zandra Rhodes, and Lily Cole. American change-makers include Andrew Morgan, film-maker ('The True Cost', a ground-breaking documentary that asks us each to consider who pays the price for our clothing), and Dana Geffner (Fair World Project).

2. Words by: A Collection of Poems by writers from all walks of life (with all proceeds going to Unicef)

Words By is a collection of poems which will bring together writers from all walks of life, uniting their diverse voices and providing a platform for their personal expression. All proceeds go to Unicef's Children's Emergency Fund.

It is sadly all too common for refugees and displaced people to be considered other. In this beautiful poetry book, all words will be considered equal. At its core, Words By is a means of free expression and through it, we hope to reinforce our shared humanity.

3. Girl Woman Other by Bernadine Evaristo

Winner of The Booker Prize 2019, Girl, Woman, Other follows the lives and struggles of twelve very different characters. Mostly women, black and British, they tell the stories of their families, friends and lovers, across the country and through the years.
