Revel in the World of Sustainable Booze this Christmas

Posted on

It's a time of merriment and festive cheer, and we absolutely love it! Our favourite time of year in fact, and a very much a time of year when I get most carried away with a drink or three. We reckon you're the same as us, so we wanted to share three of our favourite sustainable alcohol brands with you.

1. Sapling Vodka

Named by GQ and Conde Nast amongst the best vodkas in the world, yet we only met this wonderful brand last weekend at the Zero Waste Goods Christmas Fair. We were fortunate enough to be back-to-back with their stand and loved their story, ethos and determination to make a positive impact. They produce their vodka in the heart of London, distilling their vodka 4x with 100% British wheat. For every bottle produced, Sapling plants a tree. A study found that an average bottle of vodka uses 2.8kg of carbon before it reaches its customer. One of their trees can absorb up to 1.5 tonnes of carbon in its lifetime, making each of the Sapling bottles significantly carbon positive. Each bottle includes a QR code, which you can use to see exactly where "your" tree is!

2. Fatty's Organic Gin

Only two years in the making, set up down the road from us in Dulwich, South London, is Fatty's Organic Gin. Their growth has been rapid and sustainable (no pun intended) and they even had their gin in the Royal Box at Goodward Race Course this year.  100% of their ingredients and botanicals are 100% certified organic. They are also certified by the Soil Association which is one of the most reputable organic gold-standards in the world.

3. Toast Ale

Did you know that 44% of bread is wasted? Toast, a Yorkshire-based ale company is putting that bread to work. Their award-winning beer is brewed with unsold loaves from bakeries and unused crusts from sandwich makers. The only other ingredients are hops, yeast and water. Toast Ale also give 100% of their profits to Feedback, an environmental charity campaigning to end food waste.
